Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Member Al-Aradah Calls for Urgent International Support to Address the Burden of Displacement in Marib

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Sultan Al-Aradah, a member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib Governorate, met on Wednesday with U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Steven Fagin to discuss the growing humanitarian and development challenges facing the governorate amid continuing waves of displacement.
During the meeting, which coincided with the conclusion of Ambassador Fagin’s term in Yemen, the two sides reviewed the significant pressures on Marib’s infrastructure and public services resulting from the governorate hosting approximately 62% of Yemen’s internally displaced population from across the country.
Al-Aradah called on the international community to substantially increase humanitarian and development assistance to support local authorities and the Yemeni government in meeting the growing needs of both residents and displaced people. He also stressed the importance of strengthening economic stability, which directly affects living conditions.
The Presidential Leadership Council member stated that the continued intransigence and escalation by the Houthi Movement have intensified humanitarian suffering and undermined United Nations and international efforts aimed at alleviating the country’s humanitarian crisis.
For his part, Ambassador Fagin reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continuing cooperation with the Yemeni government and international partners to support humanitarian and development projects and help ease current economic and living hardships.
Worsening Humanitarian Situation in Marib
Marib Governorate is experiencing a sharp deterioration in humanitarian conditions amid declining living standards and public services. Officials have warned of a widening gap between needs and available assistance for both displaced persons and host communities throughout 2026, driven by shrinking international humanitarian funding and increasingly severe climate-related challenges.
According to an official report issued by the Marib Office of the Ministry of Planning, the governorate—home to the largest concentration of internally displaced persons in Yemen—is approaching a critical humanitarian situation. The report found that approximately 296,835 families require urgent, life-saving humanitarian assistance to sustain their livelihoods.
The report further highlighted that 234,000 families are facing the threat of hunger as the humanitarian crisis continues to deepen across the governorate.
