Citizens Protest in Aden on Eid Morning Demanding Water Supply

Yemen Monitor / Aden / Exclusive:
The temporary Yemeni capital of Aden witnessed a protest demonstration demanding the provision of drinking water, as participants raised banners condemning the interruption of government water supplies to several districts.
Dozens of residents from Al-Buraiqah District gathered in a protest on the morning of Eid al-Adha, demanding the district’s fair share of pumped water amid a worsening crisis in basic services affecting various districts across the governorate.
Districts throughout Aden have been suffering from widespread water outages, worsening the hardship faced by residents celebrating the holiday under difficult living and service conditions that have increased the daily burdens on families.
In an exclusive statement to Yemen Monitor, community activist Abdullah Nasser Al-Kazmi said that the severe water crisis in Al-Buraiqah District had turned into a growing humanitarian and service disaster. He pointed out that the district — the largest by area in Aden Governorate — has faced continuous neglect for more than eight years without any fundamental solutions from the relevant authorities.
Al-Kazmi explained that the current water distribution mechanism is unfair, with some neighborhoods receiving water for only one day followed by a ten-day interruption. He said this situation is completely incompatible with the population density and the basic needs of residents, who are now engaged in a daily struggle to secure drinking water.
He added that repeated appeals submitted to the responsible authorities seeking genuine solutions have received no response, stressing that the continued neglect of the crisis has deepened citizens’ suffering, especially amid the sharp economic deterioration, salary interruptions, and lack of stable sources of income.
