Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded a visit to Brussels during which he held a series of meetings with European officials focusing on developments in Yemen and efforts to advance the political process.
The Envoy’s office stated in a communiqué that Grundberg briefed the European Union’s Political and Security Committee and held discussions with the EU Special Representative for the Gulf region, Luigi Di Maio, along with several senior officials and diplomats.
According to the statement, the meetings addressed the latest developments in Yemen, the repercussions of regional escalation, and UN efforts across political, security, and economic tracks aimed at creating conditions for the resumption of a comprehensive, Yemeni-led political process under UN auspices.
Grundberg expressed his appreciation for the support provided by the European Union to Yemen, including its backing of UN-led mediation efforts. He emphasized that reaching a negotiated political settlement remains the only option for achieving sustainable stability in the country.
He added that the partnership with the European Union is gaining increasing importance in light of current challenges, particularly regarding strengthening the humanitarian response, supporting human rights, and securing maritime navigation in the region.
