Marib Electricity Announces Increase In Gas Plant Generation Capacity And Calls For Conservation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The General Electricity Corporation in Marib Governorate announced today, Thursday, the reinforcement and increase of power transmitted from the gas plant to meet the governorate’s growing needs during the coming period.
The Corporation revealed what it described as a “massive” growth in loads and demand for electrical energy that exceeds the capacity of any local institution, calling on citizens to rationalize their consumption.
The Corporation pointed to instances of waste and extravagance in power usage through the operation of cooking tools, irrigation equipment, and other devices that double the loads. It emphasized that this pattern of consumption would not be covered by increased production even if two turbines were operated simultaneously.
“Marib Electricity” noted a package of ongoing technical measures contributing to raising the system’s efficiency and power distribution in the lines of (Al-Arqayn, Al-Damashqa, Al-Wadi, and the City), pointing to a noticeable improvement in the performance of the Harib station and the follow-up on the arrival of necessary spare parts to restore the site to its previous status.
Marib Governorate has suffered over the past weeks from a doubling of power outage hours, amid rising temperatures with the onset of the summer season, which has caused significant suffering for citizens.
