Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:
Health authorities in Yemen reported on Thursday five deaths resulting from measles infections in the cities of Wadi Hadramawt in eastern Yemen, in a concerning health development considered the first of its kind since 1988.
The Ministry of Health office in Wadi Hadramawt stated in a statement that the region is witnessing a rapidly spreading outbreak, with more than 1,000 cases recorded recently, including critical cases that required hospitalization for medical care.
The statement explained that the majority of those infected are unvaccinated children, which has directly contributed to the rapid spread of the disease and the emergence of serious health complications in several cases.
It added that the lack of full vaccination coverage in some areas has been one of the main reasons behind the worsening epidemic situation, calling for intensified vaccination campaigns and increased health awareness to curb the spread of the disease.
Health authorities urged parents to quickly vaccinate their children, confirming that vaccines are available free of charge at various health facilities, and stressing the importance of seeking immediate medical attention at health centers upon the appearance of any early symptoms to avoid life-threatening complications.
