Yemeni Army Foils Weapons Smuggling Attempt on Hadramawt Coast

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

A military checkpoint belonging to the Yemeni army on the Hadramawt coast foiled an attempt to smuggle quantities of weapons and ammunition and arrested a wanted security suspect in recent days in Ghayl Bawazir district.

According to the army’s official website, citing military sources, personnel at the “Al-Salb checkpoint,” affiliated with the Quartz Camp, seized a shipment of weapons during routine inspections. The shipment included RPG shells and charges as well as ammunition for mortars, which was en route through the district’s entry points.

The sources added that the operation also resulted in the arrest of an individual wanted by security authorities. The seized items were confiscated, and legal procedures were initiated against the suspect in preparation for referral to the competent authorities to complete investigations.

Hadramawt governorate in eastern Yemen has been under ongoing security alert at military checkpoints to secure the province and prevent the smuggling of weapons and prohibited materials, following the unrest that occurred after the expulsion of forces affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council from the coastal and valley areas of Hadramawt.
