Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that internally displaced persons (IDP) communities in Marib governorate are placing significant pressure on health services, amid growing humanitarian needs and the continued influx of emergency cases to medical facilities.
In a statement, the organization explained that Marib General Hospital, considered one of the most crowded referral facilities in the country, is receiving trauma cases repeatedly and in waves, increasing the burden on its medical staff.
The statement quoted Dr. Abdulrazzaq Al-Salahi, a general surgery consultant who has worked at the hospital since its establishment, as saying that frontline medical teams are facing immense pressure. He added: “Sometimes we receive between 5 and 15 critical cases at the same time — from traffic accidents, explosions, or gunshot wounds — where we must carry out triage.”
According to WHO, Marib currently hosts one of the largest concentrations of internally displaced persons in Yemen, further intensifying pressure on health services that already suffer from limited resources and capacity.
Despite these challenges, Marib General Hospital continues to perform emergency surgeries around the clock, helping save the lives of women, youth, and families who arrive at the hospital in critical condition with limited chances of survival.
