Rights Network Condemns Humiliation of Student at School in Amran Governorate

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms has strongly condemned what it described as a grave moral and humanitarian violation committed against student Ubaidah Mujahid Rajeh at a school in the Ayal Suraih district of Amran Governorate.
The network described the incident as a severe psychological abuse marked by public bullying and incitement to hatred within an educational environment that is supposed to be safe for students.
It explained that the student is the son of Mujahid Rajeh, who was sentenced to death by a Houthi-run Special Criminal Court on charges of espionage—following what the network called a sham trial lacking due process and legal guarantees, and considered null and void under national and international law.
According to the information available to the network, school director Mahdi Ahmed Hussein Al-Maimouni summoned the student to the morning assembly stage in front of his classmates and mocked him publicly, making direct remarks about his father and his fate—an act the network said represents a blatant violation of the child’s dignity and psychological safety.
The network classified the incident as a full-fledged act of psychological violence, a violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and a criminal behavior amounting to collective punishment against a family over a political or security issue.
It reported that the student returned home in a state of severe psychological breakdown, refusing food and speech and expressing a desire to quit school—an indication of deep harm that threatens his educational future and mental stability.
The network held the school administration, the Amran Education Office, and the authorities controlling the governorate fully responsible—legally and ethically—for the incident and its psychological, educational, and social consequences.
It called for an immediate, transparent, and independent investigation, the suspension of the school director, accountability for all perpetrators without cover, urgent psychological support and protection for the student, and safeguards to prevent the recurrence of such violations in educational institutions.
The network affirmed that turning schools into platforms for humiliation and political retaliation constitutes a compounded crime against children and education, and lays the foundation for a generation psychologically broken and deprived of trust and safety.
