Houthi Supervisor Forcibly Imposes Levies and Closes Homes and Shops in Shar’ab, West of Taiz

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
A field supervisor affiliated with the Houthi group in the Al-Zarari area of Shar’ab Ar Rawnah District, northwest of Taiz Governorate, has closed a number of homes and commercial shops, according to testimonies from residents in neighboring villages.
Residents from Al-Zarari, Al-Qahaf, and Jarays stated that the field supervisor, identified as Adnan Shams al-Din, sealed off homes and shops by placing locks and iron chains on the doors. He is reportedly demanding that residents pay what is termed the “war effort” contribution for the benefit of the group.
Residents noted that these measures followed the failure of previous intimidation attempts. These prior attempts included:
- Indiscriminate gunfire at night.
- Blocking roads.
- Filing malicious reports (false accusations) that led to the detention of some villagers, who were subsequently released only in exchange for financial sums.
The residents called on human rights organizations to intervene urgently to halt these assaults and levies, which they described as having been ongoing for months, carried out by the field supervisor and a number of gunmen affiliated with him.
