“Half a Skull and a Diseased Heart” — Detainee Faces Slow Death in Houthi Prisons
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
A human rights organization has called for urgent action to save detainee Mohammed Al-Sulami after his health severely deteriorated inside Houthi militia prisons in the Ibb Governorate, with reports indicating that he has fallen into a coma for the third time in two weeks.
In a statement published on its Facebook page, the Rasd Organization for Rights and Freedoms said that Al-Sulami was recently transferred from the Political Security Prison in Ibb to one of the city’s hospitals after his health condition became critical.
The organization added that the Houthis are imposing strict secrecy regarding his condition, while his family appeals to the United Nations and international organizations to urgently intervene to save his life and reveal his fate.
“Rasd” pointed out that Al-Sulami suffers from severe health complications, having undergone open-heart surgery three months before his arrest. He also suffers from frequent seizures and convulsions and lives with half a skull due to an old traffic accident.
The Houthi group had abducted Al-Sulami, the former head of the Al-Aqsa Support Charitable Association in Ibb, on July 20, amid repeated warnings from human rights organizations about the seriousness of his condition and demands for his immediate release.
