DOHA – Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, Chairman of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, said today that the “treacherous Israeli aggression” on Qatar is a “pivotal moment” in the history of the Arab and Islamic nations, confirming that Arab security is “indivisible.”
Speaking at the emergency Arab summit in Doha, Al-Alimi stated that the ongoing “genocidal crimes” in Gaza and repeated attacks on countries in the region without accountability have emboldened the Israeli occupation to attack Qatar. He warned that policies of expansion and “illusions of regional dominance” will only be curbed through collective measures with a tangible impact.
Al-Alimi pointed out that Yemen continues to suffer from Israeli targeting of its civilian infrastructure while Houthi militias turn the country into a proxy battlefield and militarize the Red Sea to serve “regional expansionist projects.” He explained that “expansionist states and armed terrorist groups are two sides of the same coin, with each justifying the other’s expansion and undermining the national state.”
He called for the adoption of a comprehensive Arab and Islamic approach based on three pillars: a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative; supporting national states and their institutions in confronting terrorism; and deterring “rogue states,” led by Israel, while enhancing Arab and Islamic integration.
Al-Alimi also thanked the Saudi and UAE-led coalition for supporting legitimacy, and he backed the efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Arab measures to support economic and institutional reforms in his country. He commended the Arab Economic and Social Council’s decision to discuss establishing a fund for the reconstruction of Yemen.
The Chairman welcomed the UN General Assembly’s “historic decision” supporting the two-state solution, praising the Arab diplomatic efforts led by Saudi Arabia and France to achieve international recognition of the State of Palestine. He also reiterated Yemen’s support for Qatari, Egyptian, and American initiatives, as well as the Arab initiative to reconstruct Gaza and prevent a displacement scenario.
Al-Alimi concluded his speech by emphasizing that Arab and Islamic unity is the only way to protect national sovereignty and strengthen the resilience of nations in the face of all challenges.
