Field Tour in Taiz to Monitor Drug Prices and Hold Violators Accountable

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Undersecretary of Taiz Governorate for Health Affairs, Ilan Abdulhaq, led a field inspection tour in the city of Taiz today. She was accompanied by the Director-General of the Health Office, Fahd Al-Nadhari, and the Deputy Director of the Supreme Authority for Medicines branch, Dr. Siham Mullhi. The tour aimed to inspect several pharmaceutical companies, drug warehouses, and pharmacies to ensure their compliance with the new approved pricing.

During the tour, Dr. Ilan instructed that seizure reports be opened for violating companies in preparation for their referral to the Public Prosecution. Legal measures will include withdrawing licenses and permanently closing down the violators. She also warned any medical facility that violates the laws or disregards patient rights that strict measures will be taken and that hospitals will sever ties with them.

She affirmed that these monitoring campaigns are being carried out in line with the directives of the local authority leadership, represented by the Governor of Taiz, Nabil Shamsan. The efforts are part of an integrated plan to ensure transparency in the drug market and protect consumers, ensuring that citizens benefit from the reduction in the exchange rate approved by the Central Bank.

Ilan emphasized the importance of community oversight, describing the local community and official partners as essential to the success of the campaigns and price control. This will ensure that medicine reaches everyone in need at a suitable quality and price. She noted that these campaigns will continue periodically to guarantee the stability of the drug market.

The Undersecretary was accompanied on the tour by officials from the price control and oversight department, as well as representatives from community oversight, to ensure accurate monitoring of all stages of sales and distribution.
