“MASAM” Project Clears Nearly 1,000 Landmines in Yemen in One Week

The demining team of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has achieved a new milestone in its endeavor to clear Yemeni lands of war remnants.
The team announced that between July 15 and 21, demining experts successfully neutralized 971 various explosive devices, including improvised explosive devices, anti-armor mines, and dangerous war remnants.
According to detailed data, the clearance operations included 78 anti-tank mines, one anti-personnel mine, 891 unexploded ordnance, and one improvised explosive device.
“Masam” teams deployed across six Yemeni governorates, focusing their efforts in Aden governorate, where 816 pieces of unexploded ordnance were removed. In Hudaidah, 8 explosive devices were neutralized in the districts of Hays and Al-Khawkhah.
In Al-Jawf, operations resulted in the removal of 43 anti-tank mines, while the team in Lahj neutralized 20 explosive devices in the districts of Tuban and Al-Madaribah.
In Marib, one anti-tank mine and 7 unexploded ordnance were neutralized. Taiz saw the removal of 12 mines and 40 explosive devices across four districts.
Statistics indicate that the total number of mines cleared this month has exceeded 3,700, while the cumulative number since the project’s inception is approaching 506,000 mines.
The Saudi humanitarian project continues its efforts to protect Yemeni civilians from the dangers of landmines left by years of war, contributing to creating safe conditions for the return of normal life to wide areas of Yemen.
