The Yemeni Cultural Center in Cairo will host a discussion and signing ceremony for the book “In Love of Yemen: Memories of a Quarter Century of Journalism” by Egyptian journalist and writer Ibrahim Al-Ashmawy, managing editor of Al-Ahram newspaper. The event is scheduled for next Wednesday evening, as part of the cultural activities the center holds to celebrate scholarly works related to Yemen.
The event will be moderated by Abdulhafeez Al-Nahari, with discussions featuring Professor Baleegh Al-Mekhlafi, Media Advisor at the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Cairo, and prominent Egyptian media personality Magdy El-Dakkak, former editor-in-chief of Al-Hilal and October magazines.
The book, recently published by Dar Al-Yemen Publishing and Heritage in collaboration with Khalid Bin Al-Waleed Library, was previously featured at the Cairo International Book Fair. It spans 277 pages, divided into eight chapters and an illustrated appendix.
In his work, Al-Ashmawy presents deep reflections and readings on Yemeni civilization, customs, and traditions. He chronicles his journalistic experience, spanning over 25 years in Yemen, which coincided with significant historical milestones, most notably the achievement of unity in 1990, political and democratic transformations, leading up to the events of 2011. The book also addresses Yemen’s future from the perspective of development, justice, and independent national identity.
This book marks Al-Ashmawy’s sixth literary release. He dedicated it to all Yemenis “as an expression of love in the face of hatred,” emphasizing that “Yemen is the cradle of civilizations and the origin of Arabism,” as he put it.
