Yemeni Civil Association Condemns Houthi Rulings Against Journalist Al-Mayahi and Engineer Al-Harazi
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Abductees’ Mothers Association has condemned the rulings issued by the Houthi group against journalist Mohammed Dabwan Al-Mayahi and engineer Adnan Al-Harazi, describing them as “unjust and illegal.” The association affirmed that these rulings constitute a blatant violation of justice and human rights.
In a statement, the association reported that the Houthis abducted journalist Al-Mayahi on September 20, 2024, after raiding his home in Sana’a due to his social media posts. He was subjected to enforced disappearance before a Houthi-affiliated court sentenced him to 18 months in prison, fined him 5 million Yemeni riyals, and forced him to sign a written pledge.
The association also denounced the ruling against Engineer Adnan Al-Harazi, who has been abducted since January 2023. The ruling sentenced him to 15 years in prison and ordered the confiscation of his funds and properties, despite his work for a company involved in humanitarian aid oversight that enjoys international trust. The association described the ruling as being issued without a fair trial or legal evidence.
The association called for an end to the continuous violations targeting activists and journalists and demanded the immediate release of all abductees and forcibly disappeared persons.
On Sunday, the Houthi-affiliated Specialized Criminal Court issued a ruling sentencing Engineer Adnan Al-Harazi, manager of Prodigy Systems, to 15 years in prison with the confiscation of his funds and company assets. This marks the second ruling issued by the same Houthi court within 24 hours, following yesterday’s verdict against journalist Al-Mayahi, which sentenced him to a year and a half in prison and placed him under house arrest for three years upon his release from detention.
