Yemeni President: Proceeding with Economic Reforms and Deterring Houthi-Iranian Escalation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, affirmed that the state is proceeding with its comprehensive reform program and taking firm measures to deter the ongoing escalation by the Houthis, who are backed by the Iranian regime.

This came during his chairmanship, today, Wednesday, of a joint meeting that included the presidiums of both the Parliament and the Shura Council, and the Consultation and Reconciliation Commission, to discuss national developments, foremost of which is the recent Houthi escalation and sovereign violations.

The meeting addressed ongoing Houthi violations, the latest of which was flying an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) aircraft to Sana’a airport in flagrant defiance of UN resolutions and the sanctions regime, noting that this is part of a broader escalation that includes continuous mobilization and the smuggling of weapons and military technologies to the fighting fronts.

He pointed out the necessity of unifying the national ranks, warning of the dangers of targeting the cohesion among the components of the legitimacy, and explained that what the Central Bank has achieved in terms of monetary stability and restoring financial discipline was accomplished by closing government accounts outside the Central Bank.
