Educational Community in Shock: Prominent Academic Assassinated in Aden

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The city of Aden was rocked Saturday morning by the targeted assassination of Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Shaer, Chairman of the Board of Al-Nawras Private Schools. The prominent educator was gunned down in a brazen attack that has sparked widespread public outrage and fears of a return to targeted violence in the temporary capital.

Local sources report that Dr. Al-Shaer was intercepted by a vehicle carrying approximately four armed individuals as he arrived at the school gates in the Kabota area of the Mansoura district. The gunmen opened fire directly at the educator as he was heading to work, killing him instantly before fleeing the scene.

Tragically, the assassination occurred while Dr. Al-Shaer was preparing to participate in a high-profile educational event regarding the 2026 Robot and Artificial Intelligence Championship. While security forces have launched an investigation at the crime scene, no official statement has been released regarding the perpetrators or their motives.

The Yemeni Islah Party in Aden issued a swift and stern condemnation of the killing, describing it as a calculated strike against the city’s intellectual elite and its social stability.

In an official statement, the party highlighted the assassination is viewed as a direct attack on the educational sector and the individuals dedicated to scientific progress, warning that such crimes threaten to drag Aden back into a cycle of chaos and violence, fueled by a persistent “culture of impunity.”

The Islah officials have demanded an immediate, transparent investigation to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.

The death of Dr. Al-Shaer adds to a grim history of assassinations targeting civil and educational figures in Aden. Community leaders and political factions are now calling for a unified effort to protect the city’s social fabric and for security authorities to tighten measures to prevent further loss of life among the city’s professional cadre.

As the educational community mourns a leader known for his commitment to modernizing Yemeni education, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragile security situation facing those working to rebuild the country’s future.
