Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni government is moving toward preparing an integrated legislative system to address cybercrime, in an effort to keep pace with digital developments and enhance legal protection for cyberspace users.
During an extensive meeting held in the city of Taiz, which included officials and legal specialists, the Minister of Legal Affairs, Judge Ishraq al-Maqtari, revealed intensive efforts led by the ministry to review and update existing laws in line with rapid technological transformations.
She emphasized that the growing use of the internet and social media has been accompanied by a rise in patterns of digital crime, such as blackmail, privacy violations, and the promotion of misinformation. This necessitates clear legislation that ensures social protection and guarantees rights and freedoms.
She explained that the new direction also aims to align national laws with international standards, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of prosecuting cybercriminals and increasing the efficiency of institutions tasked with handling such cases.
Furthermore, she stressed the need to qualify legal and technical personnel and strengthen coordination between competent authorities, alongside intensifying community awareness efforts regarding the risks of cybercrime and methods of prevention.
