The Yemeni Minister of Transport, Mohsen Haidara Al-Amri, revealed a swift and immediate response following reports of extensive crowding involving large numbers of Yemeni pilgrims and travelers at the Al-Wadeeah land port. Al-Amri pointed out that the images and suffering reported by travelers were the primary motivation for this urgent action, stemming from national and moral responsibility toward every Yemeni citizen.
He explained that as soon as he became aware of the crisis, he directed specialized teams at the Yemeni Ministry of Transport to identify the causes of the congestion and work on arranging urgent and effective solutions. Al-Amri confirmed that he coordinated directly with the Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs to open an urgent line of communication with brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to discuss ways to end the crisis. The Yemeni Minister of Transport requested that Saudi authorities open special and exceptional lanes for Yemeni pilgrims to ensure the smooth flow of movement and the speed of their crossing.
Al-Amri announced the success of joint efforts between Yemen and Saudi Arabia in resolving the crisis, noting that the Saudi side responded immediately and generously to the Yemeni request. He indicated that, based on this response, he directed the actual implementation of opening these special lanes starting from the night of the fourth of the holy month of Ramadan. He confirmed that this measure led to the complete end of the overcrowding crisis and a return to normal traffic flow, clarifying that the comfort of Yemeni pilgrims and travelers is a top priority that accepts no negligence or shortcomings.
Al-Amri expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their rapid response and great cooperation in resolving the crisis. He also valued the support and follow-up that the Ministry of Transport’s efforts received from His Excellency the President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, the council members, and the Prime Minister. Furthermore, he praised the efforts exerted by the Yemeni Embassy in Saudi Arabia in this context.
Al-Amri emphasized that this step represents a major achievement in solving an annual problem that had troubled Yemeni pilgrims during the Umrah season. He expressed his determination to continue working hard to improve all ports and services provided to Yemeni travelers, ensuring their dignity and comfort.
