Yemeni President Issues New Appointments for the First Military Region Leadership

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces issued a new decree on Wednesday regarding leadership appointments in the First Military Region, one of the most strategic military zones in Hadramawt.

According to the decree, the following officers have been appointed to leadership positions:

  • Brigadier General Fahd Salem Issa Salem Ba-Mumen: Appointed Commander of the First Military Region and promoted to the rank of Major General.
  • Brigadier General Amer Abdullah Abdullah Mohammed bin Hatyan: Appointed Chief of Staff of the First Military Region.
  • Brigadier General Mohammed Omar Awadh Saleh Ali bin Ghanem: Appointed Chief of Operations of the First Military Region.

The second article of the decree stipulates that it shall take effect from the date of its issuance and be published in the Official Gazette and military bulletins.

These appointments follow recent turbulent events in Hadramawt and the First Military Region. The area was previously the site of an incursion by forces of the now-dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC), backed by the UAE. However, control was subsequently regained by government and tribal forces loyal to the Presidential Council and supported by Saudi Arabia.
