Larijani Meets Houthi Spokesman in Muscat on the Sidelines of an Official Visit

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, met on Tuesday evening in the Omani capital, Muscat, with Mohammed Abdul Salam, the spokesman for the Houthi group, according to Iranian media reports.

The meeting took place as part of ongoing Iranian diplomatic movements in the region. Larijani had arrived in Muscat earlier the same day, just days after the Sultanate hosted a round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington.

Earlier, the Iranian official held an extended meeting with Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tariq, which lasted nearly three hours. Sources close to the Iranian delegation described the meeting as having taken place in a positive and constructive atmosphere.

Larijani also met with the Omani Foreign Minister, during which they discussed a number of issues of mutual interest and reviewed regional developments.

Larijani is scheduled to travel next to Doha as a second stop on a tour aimed at mobilizing regional support for Iran’s negotiating position, which insists on limiting talks exclusively to the “nuclear file,” away from discussions on the ballistic missile program.
