UN Envoy to Yemen Affirms That Empowering the New Government Enhances Stability

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stressed the paramount importance of allowing the newly formed government, headed by Dr. Shaya’ Al-Zandani, to carry out its duties in a “constructive environment.”

He emphasized that enabling the government to operate is a fundamental pillar for achieving stability and alleviating humanitarian suffering, ultimately helping to create favorable conditions for sustainable peace.

In an official statement, he welcomed the formation of the new government, considering this development to have come at a critical time that requires renewed efforts to advance a comprehensive, Yemeni-led political process.

The UN envoy pointed out that the current political, economic, and security challenges compel the government to respond promptly to the priorities and aspirations of the Yemeni people.

He also welcomed the presence of women in the government, describing this step as “important and essential” for strengthening the principle of inclusive governance and supporting representative decision-making that reflects all segments of society.

Grundberg reaffirmed his commitment to continued active engagement with all Yemeni and regional parties, with the aim of supporting efforts to promote dialogue, reduce escalation, and move the peace process forward.

The new government took the constitutional oath today before the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council at the Yemeni Embassy in Riyadh.
