5.1 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Arabian Sea off Yemen’s Coast

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Arabian Sea, off the coast of Yemen, on Thursday evening.
Seismic monitoring sources reported that the epicenter was located approximately 131 kilometers north of Abd al-Kuri Island, part of the Socotra Archipelago, at 5:02 PM local time (GMT+3).
As of the time of this report, the exact depth of the earthquake has not been specified. However, preliminary estimates suggest the tremor was relatively shallow, which can increase the likelihood of it being felt. No reports of material damage or significant tremors felt in nearby inhabited areas have been received so far.
The Arabian Sea region is situated within a geologically active zone due to its proximity to tectonic plate boundaries, making it prone to intermittent seismic activity.
