Yemeni Foreign Minister: Regional Security Threatened by Houthi Escalation

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Dr. Shaea Al-Zandani, Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, affirmed on Saturday that his country’s participation in the Manama Dialogue for the second time represents a vital opportunity to strengthen relations with Gulf countries.

He explained that the security threats posed by the Houthi group are not limited to Yemen alone but extend to affect the stability of the entire region.

In a special interview with Akhbar Al Khaleej newspaper, Al-Zandani noted that the Houthi escalation in the Red Sea poses a direct threat to international navigation, calling for confronting these threats through enhanced regional and international cooperation.

The Yemeni minister pointed out that Iranian interference remains one of the main challenges facing Yemen, as Tehran supports the Houthi group militarily and financially, including sending experts from Hezbollah, which makes any political solution impossible without addressing such external interventions.

He emphasized that Yemen does not seek a solution based on the division of the country, but rather aims to involve all parties within a comprehensive national framework, noting that achieving peace requires the disarmament of militias and their commitment to constitutional legitimacy, away from violence and destruction.

On bilateral relations, Al-Zandani confirmed that relations between Yemen and Bahrain are characterized by strength and multifaceted cooperation, expressing the Yemeni government’s keenness to activate existing agreements, especially in the aviation sector and to facilitate direct flights with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Kuwait.
