Assassination of a Yemeni Doctor in Sana’a Highlights Worsening Security Chaos

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Sana’a witnessed a horrific assassination crime after an armed attack on the evening of Friday, October 31, 2025, targeted the car of Dr. Wafa Saddam Al-Basha Al-Mikhlafi in the Al-Hasaba area.

Local sources confirmed that an armed group opened fire on her directly as soon as she left one of the exchange shops, leading to her immediate death before they seized the amount of money she was carrying.

This serious crime reflects the deteriorating security situation in Sana’a, where assassinations in civilian gatherings are no longer an exception but a sign of increasing chaos and a threat to everyone.

Social media platforms saw strong reactions from Yemenis who expressed their anger and shock at this event, considering that such crimes contradict the values and morals that Yemenis used to cherish.

Yemeni media professionals and activists pointed out that the assassination of Dr. Al-Mikhlafi, who was providing important medical services to the community, represents a great loss to humanity and confirms the depth of the crisis sweeping the country.

Journalist Khalil Al-Amri said that the bloody scene on Al-Hasaba Street represents a collapse of the values that used to protect women from violence in Yemen. In the same context, media professional Omar Al-Nahmi denounced the crime and described it as “another trivialization” that reflects the spread of the phenomenon of targeting women in cities.

The tragedy of Dr. Al-Mikhlafi’s assassination was not absent from the statements of some public figures. Dr. Anisa Al-Amoudi described the incident as a heinous crime added to the record of high chaos in the country, noting that Wafa was killed because she was carrying a sum of money, which added to the horror of the act.

The discussion now focuses on the extent to which civil society and activists can achieve justice for this crime, amid a similar wave of anger that the country witnessed months ago following the killing of Iftihan Al-Mashhari, raising questions about the equality of victims’ rights and the response of the concerned authorities to humanitarian issues away from interests and affiliations.

The crime of assassinating Dr. Wafa Al-Mikhlafi remains painful evidence of the fragility of the security situation in Yemen and the country’s urgent need for decisive measures to preserve lives and restore security and stability to the capital.
