Yemen Monitor/ News Room

The Houthi armed group said on Tuesday that there is an upcoming round of negotiations on the prisoner exchange file with the internationally recognized Yemeni government.

Abdul Qader Mortada, head of the group’s prisoner exchange committee, said in a post on  “X”  that he “discussed the file of prisoners and the obstacles that prevent progress in it with Deputy UN envoy Surhad Fattah in today’s meeting.”

He pointed out that the UN official confirmed that they will invite all parties in the coming days to attend a new round of negotiations to agree on the implementation of a new exchange deal.

The Houthi leader affirmed his group’s keenness to move forward in this file, as it is a “humanitarian file” according to his claim.

The government team for prisoner exchange and abductees’ negotiations had accused the Houthi group of obstructing the negotiations that were scheduled to take place last January in Jordan.

The following day, the Houthi group Stipitated obtaining UN guarantees to resume negotiations with the Yemeni government on prisoners, in a brief statement issued by Mortada.
