The head of the Yemeni Presidential Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, emphasized the need for completing reforms in institutions and for alignment between central and local authorities during a joint meeting of government officials and governors.

The meeting, chaired by the head of the Yemeni Presidential Council, took place in Aden and included representatives from the central government and local authorities, with Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak in attendance, according to the official Yemeni news agency.

Al-Alimi expressed hope that the meeting would be a turning point towards collective work, sharing responsibilities, and prudent management of resources and services, given the exceptional circumstances the country is facing due to the continuous halt of oil exports and the catastrophic repercussions of Houthi terrorist attacks on maritime shipping and international trade.

He stressed the importance of coherence amongst all authorities as a necessary path to confront challenges, strengthen the internal front to protect achievements, and make significant progress in the battle against coup forces and terrorism as a collective priority.

Al-Alimi also highlighted the importance of enhancing communication between different components of authority, bridging the gap between central and local institutions resulting from the ongoing war with Houthi militias and its disastrous impact on state resources and living conditions, particularly after their attacks on oil facilities and their recent escalation in the Red Sea and regional waters.

He also emphasized the need for strategic short-term and long-term plans to maintain the levels of authority and their legal roles, so they can govern and serve as indicators for evaluating the performance of state institutions on all levels.

Al-Alimi stated, “We must settle the issue of the relationship between central and local authorities, and the necessary steps to resolve any discrepancies, redraw their roles and granted powers in accordance with the law.”
