The Saudi Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, said on Saturday that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to support all efforts aimed at de-escalation and peace in Yemen, as well as the UN Special Envoy’s efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution that ends the suffering of the Yemeni people. He accused the Houthi group of persisting on “a path of escalation and violence” in service of external agendas.
In a post on his account on the social media platform X, Al Jaber said that the Houthis have “turned Yemen into a card in the hands of external parties, used to advance their interests at the expense of Yemen’s security, stability, and the suffering of its people.” He also accused the group of continuing to “promote false claims and attempt to export its crises and failures abroad in order to evade responsibility for the humanitarian tragedy.”
The Saudi ambassador affirmed that the Kingdom will continue supporting initiatives to reopen Sana’a Airport to commercial flights, enabling Yemenis to travel. He claimed that the Houthis had prevented flights from operating from the airport “under flimsy pretexts.”
He also stressed Saudi Arabia’s continued support for allowing ships to enter the ports of Hudaidah to meet the needs of the Yemeni people, while accusing the Houthis of continuing to target civilian commercial vessels in the Red Sea, describing such actions as a threat to international freedom of navigation and regional security.
Al Jaber concluded by saying that achieving peace in Yemen “requires a genuine commitment that places the interests of Yemen and its people above all else, rejects violence, dependency, and external agendas.” He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s continued support for the Yemeni people and the internationally recognized government until Yemen enjoys security, stability, and peace.
