One Person Drowns, Another Rescued After Flash Floods Sweep Them Away in Ibb, Central Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

One person drowned and another was injured on Tuesday after flash floods swept them away near a culvert behind the Arab Bank in the city of Ibb, central Yemen, following moderate to heavy rainfall.

Local sources said the two individuals were caught in floodwaters while passing through the culvert area in the Al-Dhihar neighborhood. Rescue teams managed to save one of them and transport him to the intensive care unit (ICU) for treatment. The other victim died after becoming trapped inside the culvert by the rushing water before rescue crews recovered the body.

Ibb has experienced rainfall of varying intensity over the past several hours, triggering flash floods that inundated streets and residential neighborhoods. Authorities have warned residents to stay away from flood channels and culverts during periods of heavy rain.

Earlier, Yemeni meteorologists had forecast continued rainfall of varying intensity across wide areas of the country, with cloudy conditions expected over most governorates. They also predicted that the unstable weather conditions would persist in the coming days.
