Yemeni Interior Ministry Announces Arrest of “Most Dangerous African Migrant Smuggler” in Abyan

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Security authorities in Abyan Governorate announced on Wednesday the arrest of a man described as the “most dangerous smuggler of African migrants” in the region following a security operation that involved armed clashes in Lawdar District.
A security source stated that the suspect, identified only by the initials (M.A.H.), was arrested after authorities monitored, tracked, and located him before carrying out a raid on his position.
The source added that the operation led to an armed confrontation with the suspect. During the exchange of fire, one security officer sustained facial injuries and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
For his part, Al-Damani, the Director of Security in Lawdar, said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to pursue human-smuggling networks and dismantle their operations in the district. He noted that the suspect would be referred to the relevant authorities to complete legal proceedings.
Yemen’s southern and coastal governorates continue to experience a steady influx of irregular migrants from the Horn of Africa, amid active human-smuggling networks and trafficking gangs that exploit the country’s challenging security conditions.
