Yemen Monitor / Special Monitoring:
International positions and congratulations have poured in on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the re-achievement of Yemeni unity. The scene reflected a renewed confirmation of the importance of Yemen’s unity and sovereignty, as well as international support for efforts to bring about peace and stability in the country, amid the ongoing war and the security and economic challenges that Yemen has experienced for years.
Foremost among the international positions, the United States of America emphasized that Yemeni unity represents an important historical milestone and an embodiment of the values of resilience and dignity among Yemenis. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom, China, and France stressed their support for Yemen’s unity and stability, while reaffirming their continued support for development and peace efforts in the country.
In a statement on the occasion of Unity Day, the US Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, said: “On behalf of the government of the United States of America, I extend my warmest congratulations to the Yemeni people on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of Yemeni Unity Day,” considering this occasion to be “an important milestone in Yemen’s history that reflects the determination and hopes of the Yemeni people.”
He added that the occasion represents an opportunity to praise the deeply rooted values of unity, resilience, and dignity that characterize Yemenis across the country, affirming Washington’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni people in their pursuit of a future defined by peace, sovereignty, security, and prosperity.
Fagin emphasized the continuation of cooperation with the legitimate Yemeni government and international partners to promote stability and strengthen state institutions. He stressed that the United States recognizes the scale of the threat that the Houthi group poses to Yemen’s stability and regional security through what he described as “reckless actions that run counter to Yemenis’ aspirations for peace and prosperity.”
In the same context, the United Kingdom congratulated Yemenis on the anniversary of unity, stressing that “unity and shared goals represent the two fundamental pillars for fulfilling the aspirations of the Yemeni people.”
The British Embassy in Yemen said, in a statement via the “X” platform, that it extends its best wishes to the Yemeni people on Unity Day, confirming that its efforts will remain focused on supporting development in Yemen.
For its part, China renewed its confirmation of support for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, expressing its hope that Yemen will witness a more stable and prosperous future.
The Chinese Embassy in Yemen stated that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, noting that Yemeni-Chinese relations have been built on “mutual respect, joint support, and deep traditional friendship.”
Beijing affirmed its unwavering support for Yemen in preserving its sovereignty, independence, and unity, as well as its support for the Yemeni people’s efforts to achieve peace, stability, and development.
France also expressed its congratulations to the Yemeni people and their government on the occasion of the National Day, May 22, affirming its hope that peace and stability will prevail in Yemen to achieve progress and prosperity for the Yemeni people.
The French Embassy in Yemen stated that Paris will continue, in cooperation with its partners, to provide full support to Yemen in various fields.
