Yemeni Cabinet Approves 20% Cost-Of-Living Allowance and Addresses Job Settlements

On Tuesday, the Yemeni Cabinet approved a 20 percent cost-of-living allowance for state employees and resolved the status of job settlements that have been suspended for more than 13 years.

According to the official Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the Cabinet, during its meeting today, Tuesday, in the temporary capital, Aden, chaired by Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shae’a Mohsen al-Zindani, approved a package of economic, financial, and administrative decisions and measures aimed at improving the conditions of state employees, enhancing institutional performance efficiency, and activating financial and administrative reform tracks across various state institutions.

The Cabinet approved the disbursement of a 20 percent cost-of-living allowance for all state employees, as part of government measures aimed at alleviating living burdens and enhancing the purchasing power of citizens, based on the proposal submitted by the Minister of Civil Service and Insurance.

The Council also agreed to resolve the status of job settlements that have been suspended for more than 13 years and to complete the executive procedures related to them, including implementing the financial impact of academic promotions for academic staff and faculty members in universities.

Furthermore, the Council approved the implementation of the annual increments due for the years 2021–2024 for all employees in public service units, contributing to the improvement of their living conditions and reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing accumulated imbalances in the wages and salaries file.

The Cabinet considered that these decisions are part of a comprehensive government orientation toward administrative and financial reform, kickstarting the wheel of state institutions, raising the efficiency of public spending, and enhancing job discipline, in parallel with continuing efforts to restore economic and service stability.

It also stressed that the government is aware of the scale of suffering faced by citizens as a result of the current economic and service challenges, and the resulting burdens that have weighed heavily on families across various governorates.
