Yemeni Government Imposes Restrictions on Flights from the UAE

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

A Saudi source told Reuters news agency that the Yemeni government has imposed restrictions on flights arriving from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, in a move aimed at de-escalating the current tensions.

The source explained that the decision to restrict flights from the UAE came as part of precautionary measures taken by the Yemeni government within its efforts to contain and prevent the escalation of tensions. The source indicated that the STC rejected the directives of the Yemeni government and issued orders to halt all flights.

Earlier, news sources reported that Saudi Arabia had canceled all Yemenia Airways flights on Thursday morning, in addition to a Djibouti Airlines flight to Aden.

According to the sources, directives issued by the Coalition require all flights to pass through Jeddah or Riyadh airports for inspection and verification of all passengers’ identities.

In a related context, the Minister of Transport affiliated with the STC expressed his surprise and condemnation of the new measures, which he described as sudden and taken by brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Minister stated that they received a memorandum from the Coalition leadership demanding that international flights be subjected to inspection procedures via Jeddah Airport, considering that these procedures—in his words—contravene international laws and the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
