Yemeni Airspace Unexpectedly Closed in Response to Transitional Council Actions

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

High-level Yemeni government sources announced the closure of Yemeni airspace and the suspension of flight permit issuance to and from Yemeni territories. The move is seen as reflecting a clear message from Saudi Arabia regarding the recent actions of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the eastern governorates.

The sudden closure occurred at dawn on Monday, resulting in the cancellation of several important international flights across Yemeni airspace. These included routes from Riyadh to Aden, Jeddah to Aden, and Aden to Cairo, in addition to the Al-Rayyan to Dubai flight, due to the failure to issue necessary permits by the Coalition, which dominates the airspace in the region.

Affected passengers and airlines reported widespread disappointment over the lack of permits, confirming that the decision came as a direct reaction to the political and security developments in the eastern regions of Yemen.

This step highlights the rising tension between the Saudi-led Coalition and the STC, and reflects an escalation of measures used as leverage to pressure the other party into containing internal disputes and restoring security control.
