“Shield of the Homeland” Forces Assume Security Duties at Al-Ghaydah Airport in Eastern Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The security and military forces of the “Shield of the Homeland” have taken over the task of securing Al-Ghaydah International Airport in the Al-Mahrah governorate, eastern Yemen. This move comes in implementation of leadership directives and as part of a comprehensive security plan aimed at enhancing protection and raising the level of discipline at vital facilities in the governorate.
According to a statement issued by the media center of the Shield of the Homeland forces, the troops have deployed inside the airport and assumed full security operations for its perimeter. This includes entry and exit gates, parking yards, service buildings, and roads leading to the airport, to ensure the normal and safe flow of air and civilian traffic.
The statement affirmed that this step comes within the framework of broader efforts to impose stability and prevent any security disruptions. It also aims to unify protection and surveillance procedures inside Al-Ghaydah Airport, providing a secure operational environment for passengers and working crews.
The deployment of Shield of the Homeland forces at Al-Ghaydah Airport coincides with rapid military and political changes witnessed in Al-Mahrah governorate and eastern Yemen in general.
On Thursday, the forces of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) announced their complete takeover—without fighting—of military, security, and administrative institutions in Al-Mahrah governorate. This includes Al-Ghaydah city and land crossings with the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to the Nishtun port on the Arabian Sea. This followed their action of lowering the flag of the Republic of Yemen and raising the flag of the Transitional Council over government buildings and crossing points.
This expansion came hours after violent clashes in Hadramawt, during which STC forces took control of sites protecting oil companies on the Masila plateau. Their sphere of influence expanded to include the oil fields there, coinciding with the withdrawal of the Hadramawt Tribal Alliance forces from their positions.
The STC forces also managed to impose their control over military brigades in the Wadi and desert of Hadramawt, including the 11th Border Guard Brigade at the Ramah camp and the 23rd Mika Brigade in the Al-Abr area.
These developments come hours after the Hadramawt Tribal Alliance announced its agreement to a Saudi-sponsored de-escalation agreement. A military and security delegation arrived in Hadramawt on Wednesday “to contain the tension” in an attempt to stop the escalation following clashes in recent days.
