Gulf–EU Joint Statement Vows to Counter Houthi Threats and Protect Red Sea Security

Yemen Monitor /Newsroom:
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU) stressed the need for unified regional and international efforts to confront Houthi activities that threaten security and stability in the region, affirming that the security of the Red Sea and maritime corridors is a collective responsibility that cannot be neglected.
In their 29th ministerial meeting held in Kuwait, the two sides issued a joint statement emphasizing the importance of protecting maritime and air security and countering any hostile acts targeting commercial vessels, oil facilities, or critical infrastructure—a clear reference to Houthi escalation in the Red Sea.
The statement also expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Yemen, calling for the preservation of humanitarian space, the protection of civilians and aid workers, and the continued smooth flow of humanitarian assistance to all parts of the country.
As a sign of their commitment to supporting the Yemeni people, the statement highlighted recent generous contributions, including the $368 million grant from Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen, as well as over €300 million provided by the European Union in ongoing humanitarian and development assistance.
Concluding the statement, both sides affirmed that a sustainable solution to the Yemeni crisis begins with strengthening the resilience of the national economy and creating job opportunities, underscoring their commitment to expanding cooperation and development partnerships and advancing trilateral initiatives that deliver direct benefits to Yemen and its people.
