A Yemeni migrant drowned while 24 others were rescued after a boat carrying about 25 migrants from Yemen, Sudan, and Egypt capsized at sea off the city of Tobruk in eastern Libya.
A source in the Libyan Coast Guard said the boat was headed toward southern Europe when it overturned. Among the survivors were 16 Sudanese nationals, including one woman, 6 Yemenis, and 2 Egyptian migrants.
This incident is part of a tragic series faced by Yemeni migrants who continue to risk their lives in the Mediterranean in search of better opportunities in Europe. Reports indicate that dozens of Yemenis have died in recent years while attempting to cross through smuggling routes from Libya and other North African countries.
