“A3+” Group in the Security Council Calls for Accelerating Peace in Yemen Through Inclusive Dialogue

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The African group in the Security Council, known as the “A3+”—which includes Algeria, Somalia, Sierra Leone, and Guyana—renewed its call to advance the peace process in Yemen during the Council’s session held Monday at UN headquarters in New York.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Somali Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman stressed the need to create a supportive environment for dialogue among Yemeni parties, emphasizing the importance of restraint and avoiding unilateral measures that could obstruct peace efforts.
The statement reaffirmed the group’s steadfast support for the initiatives of UN envoy Hans Grundberg, while underscoring respect for Yemen’s unity and sovereignty. It also called for a purely Yemeni-led political settlement based on an agreed-upon negotiating framework.
The group expressed concern over the continuation of military operations in the region, particularly condemning recent Israeli airstrikes on Yemen that left 35 dead and 131 wounded, warning of the regional escalation’s implications for security and stability.
The “A3+” once again called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, cautioning that the continuation of aggression would negatively impact the Yemeni peace track. It stressed that inclusive dialogue remains the only path to ending humanitarian suffering and achieving lasting peace.
