Houthis Kidnap UN Employee in Front of His Family in Sana’a

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The armed Houthi group continues its campaign against humanitarian workers, as UN employee Marwan Abdulrahman Abdu Ahmed was abducted from his home in Sana’a in front of his children, after the house was raided and its contents confiscated.
According to a report received by the Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms, forces affiliated with the group arrested Marwan and transferred him to an unknown location. His family still does not know where he is being held or what his fate is, in what amounts to a continuation of the militia’s policy of enforced disappearance.
These actions constitute a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian conventions that protect humanitarian workers. They reflect a disregard for human rights and negatively impact the safety and security of both international and local staff.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms stressed that such violations threaten the ability of international organizations to carry out their humanitarian missions, thereby worsening the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
The network called on the international community—including the UN Security Council and the Human Rights Council—to take a firm stance against these violations and to pressure the Houthi militia to immediately release the detainees.
It further emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe environment for humanitarian workers so they can perform their duties without fear for their lives or safety, urging international solidarity to confront these violations and protect the rights of UN employees.
The network warned that the continuation of such arrests and assaults will only exacerbate the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
It called on everyone to stand together to ensure the continuation of humanitarian work in Yemen.
