Heavy Rains And Flash Floods In Shabwa Prompt Urgent Warnings From Authorities

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom / Shabwa:
Heavy rains and flash floods swept across Yemeni Shabwa governorate on Tuesday afternoon, August 26, 2025, disrupting daily life and prompting authorities to issue multiple warnings as unstable weather persists.
The torrential downpours triggered flooding in the valleys of Omqeen, Habban, and Al-Saeed, with the impact stretching to Ataq city, its surrounding areas, and the districts of Al-Rawdhah, Habban, and Al-Saeed.
Governor Awad Mohammed bin Al-Wazir said local authorities have stepped up emergency measures, deploying field teams and placing all districts on high alert to confront potential risks.
The Civil Defense Department warned that unstable weather conditions are expected to continue until mid-next week, particularly affecting mountainous and desert regions.
Officials urged residents to avoid crossing flood channels or approaching power lines during storms. Drivers were also advised against traveling when floodwaters are at their peak.
Meanwhile, the Public Health Office cautioned against drinking floodwater or using uncovered wells, stressing the danger of contamination that could spread waterborne diseases such as cholera, especially in areas with concentrations of irregular migrants.
Authorities reiterated that safeguarding lives and property remains their top priority and called on the public to comply with safety instructions to minimize risks during the ongoing emergency.
