Yemeni President Stresses Need to Boost Early Warning Capabilities to Face Weather Instability

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, the head of the Presidential Leadership Council, has emphasized the importance of working on more sustainable policies to enhance the capabilities of early warning centers and adapt to climate changes. This is especially critical in the country’s eastern governorates, given the rapid weather fluctuations and the effects of heavy rains and flash floods.

Al-Alimi made his remarks during a phone call with Prime Minister Salem Saleh bin Breik. The call focused on the government’s measures to mitigate the effects of the low-pressure system and unstable weather, which have caused significant material damage in the interim capital of Aden and the governorates of Hadramout, Lahij, and Shabwah.

The President was briefed by the Prime Minister on the initial report of the damage to public and private property, agricultural land, roads, infrastructure, and basic services. The report also detailed the coordination efforts with relevant authorities and regional and international organizations to provide aid, rescue, and assistance to affected families.

President Al-Alimi praised the efforts of the government, local authorities, and executive offices in the affected governorates and the precautionary measures they took to limit the impact of the low-pressure system.

He also received an update on the progress of comprehensive reforms and financial and monetary policies coordinated with the Central Bank. These measures are aimed at strengthening the significant improvement in the national currency’s value and the prices of essential goods, as part of the economic recovery plan that state institutions have begun to implement with a spirit of responsible harmony.
