Al-Zubaidi Chairs Military Meeting in Aden as Pro-Houthi Sheikh Al-Zaidi Temporarily Released in Al-Mahrah

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

On Wednesday, Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, member of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and head of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), chaired a military meeting in the interim capital, Aden. The meeting brought together the leadership of the General Staff and several departments of the Ministry of Defense, in the presence of a representative from Saudi Task Force 802.

The meeting addressed the latest military developments on the frontlines with the Houthi militia. Chief of General Staff, Lt. Gen. Sagheer bin Aziz, affirmed the readiness of the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Military Regions and their preparedness to carry out field operations.

In his remarks, Al-Zubaidi emphasized that the battle against the Houthis is one of existence and shared destiny. He called for enhanced military coordination and capacity-building efforts to keep pace with the evolving nature of the conflict, stressing the importance of recognizing the historic responsibility at this critical phase.

The meeting coincided with the announcement by authorities in Al-Mahrah Governorate of the temporary release of pro-Houthi tribal leader Sheikh Mohammed Al-Zaidi due to health reasons, while two of his relatives remain in detention. The move sparked widespread controversy among Yemenis, who view it as yet another concession reflecting the weakness of the legitimate government and its forces—particularly in dealing with high-profile Houthi detainees, many of whom are later released.
