Hadramout Tribal Alliance Sounds Alarm: Deteriorating Livelihoods and Urgent Need for Self-Governance

Yemen Monitor/Mukalla/Exclusive:

The Hadramout Tribal Alliance has issued a strongly worded statement expressing its deep concern over the situation in the coastal districts, particularly Mukalla, the center of Hadramout governorate in eastern Yemen.

This comes as public anger escalates in Mukalla, with demonstrators taking to the streets, burning tires.

The statement indicated that the continuous collapse of the national currency and the deterioration of electricity, water, health, and education services are a result of negative accumulations that have not found an effective solution.

The Alliance affirmed that the Hadrami community has repeatedly warned over the past year about the continued deterioration, emphasizing that there is broad popular consensus on the necessity of achieving self-governance for Hadramout.

The Alliance believes that this project represents the optimal strategic choice to overcome the current crisis and build a prosperous future befitting the governorate and its people across developmental, economic, and security fronts.

The statement strongly criticized the lack of local, regional, and international response to “the voice of the Hadramis and their legitimate demands.”

The Alliance warned against “greedy” parties seeking to impose their dominance over Hadramout from outside the governorate, using internal tools, which further complicates the situation and deepens the suffering of citizens.

The Hadramout Tribal Alliance announced its full support for any peaceful steps taken by the people of Hadramout to express their demands and rights. The statement also held the security and military apparatuses responsible for protecting citizens and public institutions, urging them to deal with popular movements with high responsibility, ensuring freedom of expression and preserving social peace.

In conclusion, the Alliance issued an urgent appeal to the Arab Coalition countries and the international community to bear their responsibilities towards Hadramout. The Alliance warned that ignoring these vital demands might push them to take other steps that the Alliance deems necessary to serve the governorate and its people.
