EU: Famine Risk in Yemen Is Real — We Support Urgent Action to Avert Catastrophe

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The European Union has warned that the risk of famine in Yemen is “real” unless urgent measures are taken, announcing the provision of €9 million in emergency funding to the World Food Programme (WFP) as part of humanitarian efforts to prevent the worsening of the country’s food crisis.
In a statement published on its platform on X (formerly Twitter), the EU said the new funding aims to support WFP, which remains one of the few organizations carrying out vital lifesaving operations across Yemen. It stressed that humanitarian aid must always be based on actual needs, calling it a “shared responsibility.”
This support follows the 7th Senior Officials Meeting on Yemen held recently in Brussels, where the EU reaffirmed its full commitment to humanitarian obligations and to coordinating international efforts to address growing food security challenges and prevent famine.
The EU emphasized that Yemen’s food crisis requires a swift and coordinated international response, noting that the most vulnerable groups are in urgent need of humanitarian interventions to ensure their survival.
