Yemeni Ministry of Defense Approves Plan to Open Main Roads in Contact Areas with Houthis

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemeni Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Mohsen Al-Daeri, announced an urgent plan to open main roads in areas of contact with Houthi-controlled territories. The announcement came during an extended leadership meeting in the interim capital, Aden, aiming to facilitate the movement of civilians and the flow of humanitarian aid and essential goods to besieged areas.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency, the decision coincides with discussions on military field developments and addressing security challenges.
Al-Daeri chaired the meeting, attended by Major General Ahmed Al-Basr, Deputy Chief of Staff, along with Ministry of Defense leaders and heads of military bodies and institutions. He affirmed that opening the roads stems from “consideration for the humanitarian aspect,” and highlighted the formation of specialized security committees to ensure the safety of liberated areas and monitor vital points.
The Minister revealed extensive coordination with the political leadership, represented by the Presidential Leadership Council, to implement this step. This move is expected to end the suffering of thousands of civilians due to the Houthi militias’ closure of roads for years. He stressed that the plan includes preventive military measures to counter any threats during the opening process.
Furthermore, the meeting discussed performance reports of military institutions and progress in enhancing combat and training readiness. Al-Daeri praised the sacrifices of soldiers on the frontlines and urged intensified efforts to “thwart the militias’ alliances with terrorist organizations.” Mechanisms for strengthening cooperation among security agencies to contain hostile movements were also reviewed.
