Yemeni President Establishes New Military Zone in Central Country

Yemen Monitor/Aden/Special:

Head of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, issued new decisions on Sunday regarding the reorganization of the armed forces, where a new military zone was created in central Yemen.

According to “Defense Line,” a website specializing in military affairs, the decisions included the establishment of the “Eighth Military Zone,” which will include the governorates of Ibb, Dhamar, and Al-Bayda, after separating them from the operational scope of the “Seventh Military Zone,” which covered a wider area since the army’s restructuring in 2013.

A military source familiar with the details confirmed to “Yemen Monitor” what “Defense Line” mentioned, but said that the military zone includes the governorates of Al-Dhale’ (south), Ibb, and Al-Bayda, located in central Yemen.

The decisions also included the appointment of Major General Hadi Ahmed Musad Al-Awlaqi as commander of the Eighth Military Zone, in addition to his command of the 30th Armored Brigade, while Brigadier General Adel Saleh Al-Shaybah was appointed as the Chief of Staff of the new zone.

The source told “Yemen Monitor” that Brigadier General Ali Abdul-Mughni was appointed as the Operations Officer of the zone.

According to “Defense Line,” the headquarters of the new military zone will be located in the Qatabah district, north of Al-Dhale’ Governorate, an area that witnesses an intersection of control between the Yemeni army and a number of military formations, including forces affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council(STC), in addition to the “Giants” and “Nation Shield” forces.
