US State Department: Ceasefire Agreement with Houthis Includes Red Sea and International Navigation

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The US State Department announced today, Tuesday, an agreement with the Houthi group in Yemen that stipulates a halt to their attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
The department confirmed that the group had expressed its readiness to end the fighting, which prompted US President Donald Trump to approve the suspension of military operations against them.
Trump said in a press statement: “The Houthis have informed us that they no longer want to fight, and they have pledged to stop their attacks on ships. Based on that, we have decided to stop the airstrikes immediately.”
This development came after Omani mediation, as the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the success of its communications with Washington and parties in Sana’a in reaching a ceasefire agreement between the two sides.
For his part, the spokesperson for the US State Department affirmed that the agreement is limited to stopping Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea, noting that the group has expressed its readiness to end the fighting.
It is worth noting that the US had launched a military campaign against the Houthis in Yemen since mid-March, targeting more than 800 sites, in response to the group’s attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
