Egypt Assumes Command of International Force Securing the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab

Yemen Monitor – Newsroom:

The Egyptian Navy has assumed command of Combined Task Force 153 (CTF 153) of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) during a ceremony held in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

The force, which includes 46 countries, is tasked with securing the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, and combating piracy, smuggling, and maritime terrorism.

Rear Admiral Mohamed Rasmy took over command from Australian commander George Mackie, who was praised by Vice Admiral George Wikoff for the achievements of the force during his tenure.

Rasmy emphasized the importance of international cooperation and information integration to ensure maritime security.

This development comes amid rising tensions in the Red Sea due to Houthi attacks on ships, which have disrupted navigation and global trade.

Task Force 153 was established in 2022 to address security challenges in the region, one of the world’s most vital maritime corridors.

It is worth noting that the Combined Maritime Forces consist of five task forces and include 46 member states, nine of which are Arab countries. The coalition aims to enhance maritime security and protect international navigation.
