Four Die Drowning in the Sea in Hodeidah, Western Yemen
Yemen Monitor/Hodeidah/Special:
The young Yemeni actor Nazih Suwar and three of his friends died by drowning this morning in the sea in the city of Hodeidah, western Yemen.
According to local residents’ accounts, the victims drowned in front of the “Five Stars” hotel, where strong waves and sea currents made rescue difficult.
Residents stressed the need to exercise caution and follow safety procedures while on the beaches, to ensure everyone’s safety.
Over the past week, the Yemeni coasts extending from the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden to the Red Sea witnessed a sudden and unprecedented rise in sea levels, peaking between 2 to 3 meters, causing widespread floods and submerging coastal areas in the governorates of Hodeidah (west) and Aden (south).
