Trump Talks About a ‘Fruitful’ Call with Sisi on Developments in Yemen
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he had a “highly successful” phone call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Trump stated that the discussion covered various regional and international issues, including the situation in Gaza and the military developments in Yemen.
In his official statements, Trump highlighted the “tremendous military progress” achieved by the U.S. and its allies against the Houthi group in Yemen, amid escalating U.S. and British strikes on Houthi positions.
The conversation also touched on Gaza, with Trump and Sisi discussing “possible solutions” for the situation in the enclave, as the Israeli war continues and the humanitarian crisis worsens.
It is worth noting that Egypt plays a mediating role between Hamas and Israel to broker a ceasefire in Gaza.
The call comes at a time of unprecedented tension in the Middle East, with escalating military operations in Gaza, growing threats between Israel and Iran, and ongoing clashes between the U.S. and the Houthis.
Trump had previously spoken with Sisi in January about relocating Palestinians from Gaza to “neighboring countries.” In February, Sisi canceled a planned visit to the U.S. in protest against Trump’s proposal to displace Palestinians from the enclave.
